An Overview Of Interior Shutters

In the old days, you would find shutters on almost every home, where they would be doing the dual job of protecting the home from natural elements and giving you privacy. The one major difference in shutters of old and shutters today is that earlier shutters were used more on the outside of your home; while today, interior shutters are the norm.

An interior shutter is meant to be placed on the inside of your windows, after which comes the window pane and frame. These shutters have louvers on them which can be opened and closed as per your light control and privacy needs. By opening just the louvers, you can allow some light into your home and also have a partial view of the outdoors. And by simply opening the entire shutter, frame and all, you can have an unblocked view of your window.

Interior shutters are mainly of three kinds:

  • Plantation shutters that are full shutters and cover the entire window
  • Café shutters that only cover part of your window
  • Sliding shutters, which are built on tracks and where one shutter frame slides behind the other as opened.

Along with giving you the choice of having a full or partial window treatment, interior-style shutters also give you a wide choice as far as appearance goes. Vinyl interior shutters are available in many colors, and are very cost effective. Wood interior shutters give you the feel and look of the outdoors and bring nature inside your home. Such interior shutters are available in a wide array of earthy hues and can help to make your home comfortable and inviting.

A major plus point with interior-shutters is that in addition to your windows, they can also be fitted on your doors. Thus, if you feel that your home does not have as many windows as you would like, you can always use interior shutters and make your doors have window like openings too!
