Cellular Blinds – Go Cellular!
Going cellular brings about a different meaning with regards to blinds. Cellular blinds are also known as honeycomb shades because of their shape and structure. A cross section of the design reveals a hexagonal shape; the inside structure designed to trap air for thermal insulation purposes. The trapped air works wonders by forming an invisible barrier which helps regulate the surrounding air inside a home. Cell constructions are available in single or double cells, with some providers coming up with triple cells for more insulation. The cell-like features also allow for easier retraction when occupants want a clear view of the outside surroundings. Unlike usual blinds that need stacking and which can sometimes end up entangled with the cords, cellular blinds can be compressed much like an accordion. This design also ensures that there will be no holes or gaps in between the blinds. What’s more, these cellular blind designs are adaptable to various types of door and window openings due to its flexibility.
In normal circumstances, sheer fabrics are used to form the cellular features due to its light-diffusing characteristics and variable degrees of opacity. However, fabrics used to form the cell designs are combinations of two different types of fabrics. With a single side manufactured from sheer fabric and the other made from opaque fabric, certain cellular blinds can be manufactured to provide shoppers light and privacy control.
Amongst the many makers of cellular blinds include Bali and Levolor. Bali’s DiamondCell cellular blinds are available in more than 100 color choices whereas Levolor blinds are equipped with many ingenious ways for blind retractions. These operating systems include standard lift cords, a cordless system and a continuous cord-loop system. Levolor cellular blinds can also be fitted with the Day/Night option whereby two fabrics can be combined into one shade. With this design, users can use the light-filtering shades during the day and switch to a darker shade during the night time.
